Freely translated, "ikigai" means "reason for being" and it was from the search for this "reason" that the Ikigai project emerged.
In a world that thrived on disposable goods, Mariana wanted to find a way to produce clothing that respected the planet. Preferably ecofriendly and zero waste. It was in knitting, an artisanal and traditionally wasteless technique that she found her ikigai.
The passion for manual knitting was born during her childhood: the memories of wearing handmade sweaters knitted by her mother and grandmother, the feeling of homemade comfort that came from using the pieces.
It is this feeling that Ikigai tries to channel through its pieces, carefully knitted in Mariana’s atelier, with ecofriendly certified yarns produced in Portugal.
